Retriever

High

First of all, Nicolas Lapentti was an excellent Retriever. He made on average less points & errors with the forehand than his rivals but he also used the forehand to wear the rivals' backhand down. This partly explained why he was doing less errors with the backhand than his opponents too. The backhand slice was another way to retrieve that Nicolas Lapentti used.

Offensive

Medium-high

One of Nicolas Lapentti's strengths was his capacity to change quickly from a defensive (Retriever) to an Offensive game. He varied well all kind of net approach and in total 24% of his points were won at the net (with or without a volley to play).

Puncher

Medium

As we could see, Nicolas Lapentti was more taking an edge with the forehand against his opponents because of his consistency than his attack. Nonetheless, he could easily attack a dead ball but in that case his tendency was to follow that forehand to the net.

Server

Medium

Nicolas Lapentti's results with the Serve were in the average. He was dominated with that shot against the big Servers but could get an edge against other players, especially the clay court specialist.

Tempo

Medium-low

Even though Nicolas Lapentti can't be regarded as a Tempo player, he could take the return & the backhand on the rise when he had to. However, these two shots were much more played in a defensive (Retriever) than an agressive way (Tempo).
